Nineteen Peace Corps trainees welcomed to Tonga
24 June 2024. Nineteen Peace Corps trainees were welcomed to Tonga with a traditional Kava Ceremony on June 21, 2024.
The Peace Corps Tonga has been active in Tonga since 1967, with 1,754 volunteers serving across various sectors.
The new trainees will undergo three months of training in the Tongan language and culture before beginning their two-year assignments.
Nine will serve in primary schools, and ten will work on climate resilience with local officials.
