Tonga govt told to develop formal media strategy Featured
5 April, 2015. A political scientist, who heads New Zealand's Pasifika Centre at Massey University, says the Tonga government has to develop a proper media strategy.
Prime minister Akilisi Pohiva's administration has been under fire from local media over its level of accessibility.
When the government, the first democratically elected administration run by a commoner, does respond it often issues conflicting messages.
Dr Malakai Koloamatangi says the government has tried to give the impression it is open to everyone but this is not happening and it needs to develop a communication strategy.
"A proper, formal communication strategy. Amongst what needs to be in the strategy is the fact that there needs to be open and accountable communication between the media and the government, when it is needed."

TOO LATE, ISN'T IT DR. KOLOAMATANGI?...For an experienced politician and journalist, PM Pōhiva was always in the news early in the morning daily before his ascend to the PMO. Why suddenly does he not know what the news media needs?
1) Case of insomnia that he's too tired from lack of sleep to remember important things other than 'Etuate Lavulavu's name?
2) Come on, Dr Koloamatangi. You may think we are stupid back here in Tonga, but we know what's going on with your friend at the PMO.
3) We hold him responsible for the corruptions going on. Let's call "a rose a rose..." He's erecting barriers between government and the public to hide his ineptness, and unqualified state of mine to be a Prime Minister. -
