Tonga Sport Council denies Tonga's Pacific Games team underfunded Featured
3 July, 2019. The Tonga Sports Council has taken issue with reports that the team going to the Pacific Games had been underfunded by the government.
Last week RNZ Pacific reported King Tupou VI had contributed funds to help the team because it didn't have enough money.
But the Council, which is a government agency, says the team had been properly funded until Tonga's Sports Association and National Olympic Committee, or TSANOC, included an additional seven teams, despite them having not reached the qualifying standard.
The Sport Council's chair, Ikani Taliai, told Don Wiseman this move by TSANOC went against what had previously been decided about who was entitled to go.

FIRST PM 'AKILISI PŌHIVA DESPISED ATHLETES FOR BEING LOSERS...second he cancelled the Games 2019...third now he's sending our finest athletes underfunded...WHAT ELSE IS HE CAPABLE of doing? HE IS RESPONSIBLE.
Therefore some of the athletes will go hungry because they have no money. Where is the levee money from taxing Remittances coming into Tonga? There's no excuse for not having enough funds for the athletes.
His Majesty did not have to donate money to help the athletes. Government should financed everything from the fees deducted from Remittances. $300 million received in Remittances in 2018 alone. At 2% (x 0.02) that's $6 million.
WHERE IS THE MONEY?
