Recipients of the Japanese Government (MONBUKAGAKUSHO:MEXT) Scholarship Congratulated Featured

6 April 2016. On Thursday 24th March, H. E Mr. Yukio Numata, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Tonga congratulated the successful recipients of the Japanese Government (MONBUKAGAKUSHO:MEXT) Scholarship for 2016, Ms. Mele Felisita Mavis Taumoepeau and Ms. ‘Alisi Tangi ‘a e Manu mei Vailahi Uhi prior to their departure.
Ms. Mele Felisita Mavis Taumoepeau, 32 from Fanga, Tongatapu was accepted as a Research Student at the Yokohama National University in Kanagawa Prefecture. Ms. Mele’s scholarship period includes a six months Japanese language training before completing a two year Master’s Degree (M.A) course majoring in Economics. She graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Science from the University of the South Pacific in Suva Fiji, and worked at the Statistics Department of the Government of Tonga.
Ms. ‘Alisi Tangi ‘a e Manu mei Vailahi Uhi, 17 from Nukunuku and Kolomotua, Tongatapu was accepted as a Specialized Training College Students to study Business Japanese Interpreting Course, at the Bunka Institute of Language in Tokyo. Her scholarship period will last for three years from April 2016 including one year preparatory education in the Japanese language. Ms. ‘Alisi was a Form 7 students of Tonga High School.
The Japanese Government Scholarship offered by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology aims to foster human resources and contributed to the development of both Japan and the wider world. Students from Tonga have been successful recipients since the first MEXT Scholarship awarded, in 1995.
The selected recipients departed Fua’amotu Airport for Japan on Monday, 4th April.
