Tongan Students Add Colour To Anglican FONO held in Suva Fiji Featured

8 March, 2018. Saint Andrew’s Anglican School students from Tonga were part of the three-day Oceania Anglican FONO that ended on Sunday.
Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand, and Polynesia Diocesan Archbishop, the Most Reverend Winston Halapua said the school offered themselves to be available as their contribution to the FONO (meeting or dialogue).
He said the invitation was sent to the school before Cyclone Gita struck the Kingdom.
“We thought they would not make it, but what moved our hearts was that they stood by their commitments,” said Archbishop Halapua.
“Many of them should be at home because of the severe damage in Tonga. These are students from all over Tonga. Since they arrived, they have put their contribution to each day of the conference.”
On Monday night, the church raised some funds in aid of Tropicl Cyclone Gita appeal for the students to take back to Tonga.
“When they return, at least we have helped many families in Tonga. Biscuits we have in Fiji are important to them right now since there are no root crops.
“They came with their brass instruments, when they return to their homes, not only the brass that they will take back but biscuits too.”
The students have returned to Tonga.
Commenting of the overall event, Archbishop Halapua said the FONO was “absolutely unique because of the hospitality of the Government and the people of Fiji.”
