Tonga Airport Limited hosts Air Transport Development Tribute Featured
27 April, 2016. The Chairman and Directors of TAL’s Board of Directors hosted the “Air Transport Development Tribute” held at Fua’amotu International Airport on 26th April 2016.
The Honourable Prime Minister ‘Akilisi Pohiva delivered the key note address marking the significant occasion which celebrates the progressive development of air transportation in the Kingdom of Tonga to date. The Tribute marks the substantial achievements which have culminated in the introduction of Boeing 777 operations into Tonga, the resumption of international air services into Lupepau’u Airport, and the upgrades of other airports and air navigations’ facilities and services in the Kingdom.
With the introduction of the B777 services at Fua’amotu International Airport, Tonga now has the capacity to meet the demand for passenger traffics during the peak seasons, the growing need for capacity for exports of local products, as well as the ability to operate long distance flights should the need arise in due course.
The remarkable cooperation and coordination amongst Government officials, the air transport industry, civil aviation stakeholders, donor partners, and contractors from the private sector have resulted in this significant upgrade and advancement of TAL’s airports’ facilities and hence the capacity to meet current and future demands in a safe, secure and sustainable manner.
The Tribute included a site tour of the upgraded runway and the new fire station at Fua’amotu International airport. Tonga Airports Ltd aims to provide a safe and
efficient airport environment that is both welcoming to travellers and commercially successful to airline and business partners.
