His Majesty King Tupou VI and Her Majesty Queen Nanasipau’u visit the Embassy of the Kingdom of Tonga in the UAE

14 November 2022. His Majesty King Tupou VI held an audience with the Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Tonga in Cyprus, Mr. Joseph Borghese who received his appointment on 26 January 2021.

Mr. Borghese is a Cypriot and is the head of familyowned businesses of Borghese Ventures, Borghese Wine 365, Pundi X 365 and the humanitarian organization “Hope For Children” CRC Policy Center.

In 2019, he was awarded with the Cyprus Young Entrepreneur of the Year and was also elected by the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce as the Treasurer of the Cyprus – Australia Business Association.

Borghese Ventures is an investment firm that has primary investments in the shipping manufacturing sector, in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) sector focused the interface of AI and health care and in the Diamond Mining sector. In his first audience with His Majesty King Tupou VI, the Honorary Consul discussed potential investments for the Kingdom of Tonga and areas of cooperation that could benefit the Kingdom of Tonga in the medium to longer term.

He later hosted their Majesties and His Excellency and Mrs. ‘Akau’ola for lunch where an exchange of traditional gifts from then Kingdom of Tonga and Cyprus were exchanged. Her Majesty Queen Nanasipau’u also visited the Embassy and was welcomed by Madam Ambassador Suzanne ‘Akau’ola.

It was the first time for Her Majesty Queen Nanasipau’u to visit the Embassy so Madam Ambassador Suzanne ‘Akau’ola provided a guided tour of the Embassy premises.

Her Majesty Queen Nanasipau’u was presented with the BIE Gold Award for Exhibition, which the pavilion of the Kingdom of Tonga won at the Expo Dubai 2020.

The BIE Gold Award for Exhibition is an award, which is decided by an international panel of nine experts in architecture, urban planning, exhibition, world expos and more. Tonga was chosen for the supreme aesthetic functionality with extraordinary visitor discovery of its pavilion at Expo Dubai 2020.

In her presentation of the BIE Award to Her Majesty Queen Nanasipau’u, Madam Ambassador Suzanne ‘Akau’ola stated that it was an honour for her to be the Deputy Commissioner General for the Tonga National Expo 2000 Committee and that the BIE Award was a tribute to the hard work of the Tonga National Expo 2000 Committee.

The next World Expo will be hosted by the city of Tokyo, Japan in 2025.
