Delegation from Tonga attends IMF High Level Seminar
24 October 2024. A high level Seminar was hosted by the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) – Ms. Kristalina Georgieva, for the Finance Ministers of the Pacific Island Countries at the 2024 Annual Meeting.
Governor for Tonga to the IMF– Hon. Tiueti addressed the seminar as lead speaker by urging the IMF (Fund) to escalate its level of support for improved credibility of fiscal framework for Tonga.
He also emphasized the need to IMF to provide context specific advice to meet the realities of Tonga and vulnerable countries, build policy buffers with the Fund’s Resilient and Sustainability Trust, improve financial sector support with transmission mechanisms, capacity development and securing climate financing needs of these countries including the support for the Pacific Resilience Facility (PRF).
Hon. Tiueti was joined by the Governor of the National Reserve Bank of Tonga Tatafu Moeaki as well as Senior Officials from the Ministry of Fiance and teh National Reserve Bank of Tonga.
