MTED is organizing it's first ever Trade Week

23 August, 2021. Ministry of Trade and Economic Development (MTED) is organizing the first ever Trade Week in the history of the Ministry.

This event is in partnership with stakeholders from the public and private sector to cooperate and boost Tonga’s economic recovery following on from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

 This initiative is essential that all stakeholders work together to adapt and cope with the new norms that we find ourselves in. As stakeholders from both the public and private sector have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is MTED’s responsibility to accommodate this venture during the Trade Week 2021 through networking and exhibitions; allowing stakeholders to share information and resources.

The following are objectives of MTED Trade Week:

  1. To provide a platform for all organizations that are involved in facilitating economic and trade activities to come together and showcase to the general public and businesses the type of services they can access from each respective organization;
  2. To consistently improve the relationships of all stakeholders in the economic sector;
  3. To provide an opportunity for an informal but meaningful dialogue between the government and the private sector;
  4. To provide programs and activities that will allow youths to start thinking about their future and the economy.

The event is expected to be held annually and it is being organised by MTED. This year Trade Week 2021 is scheduled to commence on Tuesday 24th – Friday 27th August, 2021.

The theme of Trade Week 2021 is “Investing in Tonga’s Economic Recovery”. This theme was developed to capture the government’s vision of not only assisting the private sector in recovering, but also in a pace that will ensure the impact of COVID-19 is mitigated as much as possible.
