Lord Tupou becomes an acting Judge of the Supreme Court Featured
20 November, 2020. His Majesty in Council appointed Lord Tupou this morning as an Acting Judge of the Supreme Court pursuant to clause 88(2) of the Constitution of Tonga.
Lord Tupou took his oath in Cabinet pursuant to clause 95 of the Constitution.
Justice Tupou's tenure commences from 16 November 2020 until 30 June 2021, or until such time as a permanent replacement for the retired Justice Cato is engaged.
Justice Tupou will be based at Courtroom 3 of teh Supreme Court and he will deal with (but not limited to) family matters, probate matters and appeal matters.
Justice Tupou was a former Attorney General and Minister of Justice is a member of the Privy Council.
