Multi Million Pa'anga Disaster Equipment for Tonga Donated by Japan Featured
Nuku'alofa, 2 June 2015. The official handover of disaster equipment received under the Non-project Grant Aid (NPGA) for the Provision of Japanese SME’s Products 2013 was conducted yesterday Tuesday 2 June 2015 at the National Emergency Management Office (NEMO) warehouse at Vaololoa.
The Japanese Ambassador to Tonga, H.E Mr. Yukio Numata presented the equipment and revealed that the equipment is part of Japan’s Non-project grant aid for provision of Japanese small and medium sized enterprises products.
He further stated, “Our Government formalized the provision of equipment worth 200 million Japanese yen, equivalent to 3.6 million pa’anga, in February 2014, right after the devastating Cyclone Ian, to assist Tonga’s development efforts, including enhancing its disaster preparedness.”
The Deputy Prime Minister of Tonga, Mr Siaosi Sovaleni on belalf of the Government received the equipment and acknowledged the important role play by the Governent of Japan not only as a key development parntner but a very close firend of the kingdom.
The equipment received consisted of Desalination Plants, Water Pumps, Tents, Speakers with Sirens (loud hailer), Chainsaws, Emergency Tools and Water Tanks.
