Deputy Prime Minister attended Samoa's Independence Day

2 June, 2023. The Deputy Prime Minister, Honourable Samiu Kuita Vaipulu, represented Tonga at the 61st anniversary of Samoa's Independence in Apia today.

The celebration began in the early hours of today with the raising of the flag of the Independent State of Samoa by the Hon Prime Minister of Samoa, Hon.Fiame Naomi Mataafa.

The keynote address was delivered by the Samoa Head of State, Tuimalealiifano Vaaletoa Sualauvi II followed by a March Parade from schools, organisations, Government Ministries and entities, led by the Samoa Police Band.

A cultural entertainment will follow this afternoon at Malae o Tiafau, Apia, with the lowering of the flag ceremony to end the day of celebration.

Overseas leaders who attended included the Prime Minister of Fiji, Hon Sitiveni Rabuka, Hon Carmel Sepuloni, the Deputy Prime Minister of New Zealand and others.

Tonga's delegation includes Chief Secretary & Secretary to Cabinet, Mr.Paula Ma'u and the wife of Deputy Prime Minister, Mele Vaipulu.
