USP Council reinstates Vice Chancellor Pal Ahluwalia Featured
20 June, 2020. A week of protests and controversy at the University of the South Pacific has come to an end with the USP Council voting this afternoon to reinstate Vice Chancellor Pal Ahluwalia.
The vote followed an emergency virtual meeting of the USP's full council to look into the suspension of Professor Ahluwalia last week by the council's executive committee over alleged misconduct.
The committee was led by pro-chancellor and council chair Winston Thompson who recused himself from today's meeting due to a conflict of interest.
Earlier, journalists were barred from entering the university to cover the meeting.
The Council Secretariat is expected to issue a statement tonight.
