Training on Health and Safety for local construction contractors completed

29 January, 2020. The two days training on Health and Safety with local construction contractors in Tonga was completed on the 28th January 2020 with thirty-one participants attended the training at the Kalofiama of Epworth Hall in Nuku’alofa.

Mr Mike Wilson, an Occupational and Health Specialist from New Zealand explains the importance of playing a vital role in keeping each other safe in the construction site.

“Safety is about being mindful of risks, intervening when necessary and acting in safe ways at all times”, he said.

The staff from Building Control and Land Transport Divisions of the Ministry of Infrastructure also attended the training as safety is foremost in their pursuit of continuous improvement in delivering their services.

During the two days of training, the construction contractors were emphasized to develop their individual health and safety management plan and reinforce health and safety efforts among its workers.

The training provided knowledge on how to promote and maintain a high level of health and safety working practices and conditions.

The training was conducted under the Tonga Pacific Resilience Project (PREP) of MEIDECC.
