More arrests for possession of illegal drugs

4 July, 2020. The Police Drug Enforcement Taskforce continues with their efforts to disrupt the supply of illicit drugs that negatively impact our communities, with the arrest of three men and one woman from two different locations in Tongatapu.

On Sunday 28 June 2020, the Police arrested a 28-year-olf man from Kolofo’ou who was involved in an accident at Pelehake and seized 0.50 grams of cannabis and drug utensil.

Following this arrest, on Monday 29th June the Drug Taskforce arrested from a residence at Ma’ufanga, two men aged 40 and 31 from Pili and Ma’ufanga and a 32-year-old woman from Hala’ovave and seized five packs of methamphetamine (1.77 grams), $1,332.00 pa’anga in cash and drug utensils.

All 4 accused have been charged accordingly and to appear in court at a later date.

A/Deputy Commissioner Vailea says that these arrests show that those who are seeking to profit from the harm these drugs cause can continue to expect to be targeted by Police. “Drugs have no place in our community; they destroy the lives of the users, harming our children and our communities. We hope these arrests will bring some reassurance to the community.”

He urges anyone who has information on drug dealing in our communities to contact Police.
