Tonga Police 14th Contingent are back for 3 Weeks Break Featured

The Tonga Police 14th Contingent to the Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (RAMSI) are back home for a 3 week break after a six months of deployment in the Solomon Islands.

The 14th Contingent is led by Acting Inspector Halatoa Taufa with Sergent Semisi Motu’apuaka and Senior Constable Lute Tonga arrived in Nuku’alofa on Saturday 25 April and Tuesday 27 April. They had been serving in the Solomon Islands since October 2014 and this is their first break from their Post.

The Commissioner for Tonga Police, Stephen Caldwell, welcomed them back to Tonga and represents the whole of Tonga Police in thanking them for their hard work and all they have done.

“Service overseas deserves recognition. It is one of the more difficult missions because you’re in a foreign country and you’re also away from your family for a long period,” says Commissioner Caldwell.

“Keep up the good work, you’re not only an Ambassadors for the Tonga Police but also Ambassadors for your country.”

Acting Inspector Taufa assists the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force with their Investigations and also trains them on how to use buccal swab (mouth swab) for DNA testing as well as developing a procedures according to their police powers under their Act.

Sergent Motu’apuaka assists Police Officers in weapon training and V.I.P security duties with Senior Constable Tonga as a Welfare Officer.

The Team will return to the Solomon Islands on the 19 April 2015 for their last 6 months deployment and return to Tonga around December 2015.

Since 2003 Tonga Police has sent over 100 Officers to the Regional peacekeeping mission.
