28,631 people has been vaccinated in Tongatapu and ‘Eua

27 May, 2021.  The Ministry of Health has vaccinated to date a total of 28,631 people in Tongatapu and ‘Eua with their first dose of the COVID-19 Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines.

This number has been confirmed by the Ministry’s Command Centre which is the central operations unit for the national vaccination rollout.

The Ministry has exceeded our expectation of 28,000 doses from the first vaccination batch and there are still 3 remaining vials to be used.

The vaccination sites for Tongatapu are now officially closed.

The remaining doses will be administered to priority groups in ‘Eu’eiki when weather permits, later this week.

The Ministry of Health is also planning to vaccinate a number of frontliners from Vava’u.

The second batch of 19,200 doses of the COVID-19 vaccines that arrived from Italy on Tuesday 12 May 2021 are still maintained well by staff of the Ministry of Health.

The rollout for the second doses of the vaccines will take place in late June through to July 2021. –
