19 people arrested with illicit drugs and ammunition in the weekend Featured
18 March, 2019. The Police Drug Enforcement Taskforce supported by the Tactical Response Group (TRG) and the Dog Unit arrested 19 people over the weekend with illicit drugs, ammunition and cash as part of the continuing efforts by police to disrupt the supply of illicit drugs that negatively impact our communities.
On Friday 15th March 2019 the Taskforce arrested 10 people, 9 men and one woman with 3.96 grams of cannabis, 44 ammunition and cash.
On Saturday 16th March they arrested 7 men with 14.14 grams of cannabis, 5 ammunition and cash.
On Sunday 17th March a 40-year-old-man of Lapaha was arrested at Ngele’ia with 21 pack of methamphetamine (14.06 grams), and a 32-year-old-man of Vaini was arrested with 1.17 grams of cannabis.
All suspects are in police custody while investigation continues.
Deputy Commissioner Pelenatita Vaisuai says that Police are committed to disrupt and detect the supply of drugs and hold those responsible to account.
Police, Partner Agencies and Community together will win this war against drugs and safeguard our children and the future of Tonga from its ill effects.

The Tonga Police Drug Enforcement Taskforce was launched in April 2018 and a total of 211 arrests have been made to date.
