Official opening of ‘Apitonga Multipurpose hall in Suva Fiji Featured
3 November, 2020. The new $2.3 million ‘Apitonga Multipurpose hall was officialy opened on Monday 2 November at Laucala Bay road in Suva Fiji.
The Tongan community came out in full force to witness this historical event.
It’s the first of its kind for the Tongan community in Fiji, Secretary for Apitonga, Sina Kami said, “The building was built with the Love, prayers and support of the people, Tongans living in the United States of America, New Zealand, Australia and the love from our people here in Tonga and the Government of Tonga,”
Despite the effects of COVID-19, the committee were determined to fundraise and open the new building without any debt.
She was thankful to the support and funds given by Tonga former students of the Fiji National University, USP, government ministries and individuals to enable the successful grand opening.
The project was opened by Speaker of parliament, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau.
Ratu Epeli said the relationship between Tonga and Fiji had been delicately entwined for centuries through marriage, tribal warfare, peace treaties, and a thorough rich history.
“It was due time that a formal family home for all Tongans in Fiji be born,” he said.
