PRC's Mission in Tonga officially hands over communication equipment to MIA

20 July, 2020. Today, His Excellency Cao Xiaolin, Ambassador of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Tonga officially hands over communication equipment consisting of 30 laptop computers and 2 portable projectors to the Honorable Vatau Mefi Hui, Minister for Internal Affairs.

These communication equipment is donated by the All China Women’s Federation to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Women’s Affairs and Gender Equality Division for the purpose of enhancing bilateral friendship and cooperation between the Government of Tonga and China for women’s empowerment and capacity building.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs, Women’s Affairs and Gender Equality Division have identified the lack of efficiency in communication as one of the barriers to achieving the Government’s commitment to realizing women’s empowerment and gender equality in Tonga, in line with its National Policy on Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality and its Strategic Development Framework outcome of human development with gender equality.

As a result, an application for a small in-kind grant for this purpose was made from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Women’s Affairs and Gender Equality Division and the outcome is the donation of these communication equipment from the All China Women’s Federation.

Staff of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, majority of which are women have been privileged to attend and participate in opportunities for trainings and country visits offered by China to Tonga as part of its bilateral friendship and cooperation committed to by its leaders to support human resources development and capacity building.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs gratefully accepts this donation and hopes to use these communication equipment for capacity building through trainings for the purpose of improving local women’s working skills.

In attendance at this important event is the Ambassador of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Tonga and diplomatic corps, the Honorable Minister of Internal Affairs, his Acting CEO and other Heads of Department and staff from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Pastor Barry Taukolo who carried out the blessing over the donated communication equipment and the media.
