Commissioner Cardwell Commissioner Cardwell

MEDIA RELEASE
23 April 2015

 Commissioner Caldwell’s Introduction

It is a great honour and privilege to be appointed by His Majesty the King to be the Commissioner of Police for the Kingdom of Tonga.

I will serve His Majesty, His Government, the Tonga Police and the people of Tonga to the best of my ability.

Policing is about keeping our communities safe by:

•   Upholding the Rule of Law
•   Preventing CRIME
•   Detecting Crime when it is committed

The Tonga Police Mission is ‘To earn the Trust and Confidence of the people of Tonga through our Services to the Community.'

I need to acknowledge the significant accomplishments of my immediate predecessors Chris Kelly and Grant O’Fee, the Tonga Police senior Executive members and Commissioned Officers and also the outstanding work of some very good men and women of the Tonga Police.

I plan to build on the very good work done around;

•   Community engagement
•   Leadership Development
•   Core Policing Skills
•   Infrastructure

I need to say that my main goal is to build and develop Leadership at all levels in the Tonga Police, to reach their full potential so they can lead a professional Police Service serving its Communities and Country to keep everyone safe.

I am here to help.

Commissioner Stephen John Caldwell (55) serves at New Zealand Police for 37 years. Includes:

•   Command Positions in Uniform Branch and Criminal Investigation.

Overseas Services:

•   2005 – Solomons
