China Tourism Academy Delegation visit Tonga Featured

14 August, 2019. The China Tourism Academy is a Beijing based research institution which is part of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Peoples Republic of China (PRC).

The delegation which is headed by Mr Dai Bin, President and Professor, are on an official 3 day visit to the Kingdom of Tonga from the 13th to the 15th of August.

The main purpose of their visit is the further development of Tourism between Tonga and PRC as well as seeking opportunities for Tonga to become a Tourism market for Chinese visitors as well as to foster a fruitful business relationship between Tonga and PRC.

The delegation will meet with the Honourable Acting Prime Minister of Tonga and Minister of Tourism tomorrow.

The delegation has already held successful meetings with the Chief Executive Officer Mr Sione Finau Moala-Mafi and staff of the Ministry of Tourism as well as with various representatives of the Tourism Industry here in Tonga. Mrs Papiloa Foliaki (Mother of Tourism – Hotel Operator) commented that the opening up of the Chinese tourist market will benefit the Tongan economy.

Mr Staford Aho (Major Travel and Tour Operator) further commented that this was a good opportunity for China to assist with the overall development of Tourism in Tonga.

The Chief Executive Officer Mr Moala-Mafi of the Ministry of Tourism recalls President Xi of the Peoples Republic of China at the Asia Pacific Forum meeting held in November 2018 last year in Papua New Guinea, that 2019 would be the China-Pacific Tourism year, he further added that this visit is part of the “Visit South Pacific Year” to develop and further foster shared experiences and resources between PRC, Tonga and the Pacific.

The delegation will continue on to Fiji where they are expected to meet with the Chief Executive Officer of the South Pacific Tourism Organisation and then round off their Pacific visit with Vanuatu before returning to PRC.

This visit was organized and facilitated by Mr Zhining the Tourism and Trade Commissioner, Embassy of Peoples Republic of China and the Ministry of Tourism, Tonga.
