Tonga PGA (TASANOC) denies bidding to host the 2027 Pacific Games

18 July, 2019. The Office of the Tonga Sports Association and National Olympic Committee, TASANOC (which also serves as the Tonga Pacific Games Association, PGA) has denied report by the Samoa Observer, as well as on social media, that Tonga had submitted a bid for the 2027 Pacific Games.

To lodge a Bid, the office of the Tonga PGA (TASANOC) must have the full support of the Government of the day.

The preparation work and logistic is not a small thing and it takes months or years of preparation before it is finalized and tabled with the Board of TASANOC as well as endorsement by Government and finally submitted to the Pacific Games Council (PGC).

The PGC has awarded the right to host the Pacific Mini Games in 2025 to Palau during the General Assembly in Apia last Sunday.

For the 2027 Pacific Games, PGC would open invitation and would like PGA’s/countries to table their interest and bid to be decided in next year General Assembly or latest in early 2021.

All major Games and events of this magnitude works in 7-years cycle, that is, from the year of awarding the Games to the Host up to the day of the Opening Ceremony.
