22 July, 2017. The Tonga Sports Association and National Olympic Committee (TASANOC) has confirmed the recruitment of former ‘Ikaletahi player, ‘Inoke Una’anga Afeaki as its Director of Operations for Team Tonga.

 Afeaki who has played professional rugby in New Zealand, France, Japan and Singapore over the past 15-odd years had accepted an invitation by TASANOC Executive Board to engage in rebuilding and strengthening its programs and activities specifically for Team Tonga.

One of TASANOC core function is the preparation and training of members of Team Tonga to take part at the Pacific Games and Pacific Mini Games; Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth Youth Games and ultimately the Olympic Games and its Youth programs which happen every four years.

The initiative was highlighted by our results from past Games. Therefore, TASANOC wanted to change and do something about Team Tonga and this is her effort and drive to raise the level of performance from various participating National Federations (NF’s) and its respective elite athletes at the above said Games.

According to TASANOC Secretary General, Takitoa said that this is an opportunity for TASANOC to re-connect with its members and NF’s through the expertise and experience of Afeaki both administratively and operational. He added that TASANOC is very happy and fortunate to secure the service of Afeaki with his wealth of experience in sports administration and related areas.

Afeaki has been contracted until the end of the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020.
