Wales' Pacific Island tour could be moved to NZ Featured

Wales might postpone Pacific tour Wales might postpone Pacific tour

12 October, 2016. A final decision on Wales' proposed tour of the South Pacific next summer will be made by the end of October.

Tests have been scheduled in Samoa and Tonga in June but the games could be moved to New Zealand.

There are believed to be concerns over facilities and medical cover on a tour that would take place at the same time as when the Lions visit New Zealand.

The Welsh Rugby Union are committed to the idea of playing on the islands but will consider alternatives if guarantees over player welfare are not met with Auckland the favourite destination.

A delegation from World Rugby is scheduled to travel to Tonga and Samoa within the next fortnight to assess whether facilities in each country are fit for purpose.

Wales last toured the Pacific Islands in 1994.
