23 February, 2016. About 280,000 people flocked to Canberra and took part in the 2016 National Multicultural Festival which took place Friday 12 through Sunday 14 February 2016.

The High Commission of Tonga actively participated with Her Royal Highness Princess Angelika Lātūfuipeka Tuku’aho, High Commissioner of Tonga, taking leading role.

The Princess was supported by her staff and an attending delegation from Tonga, the True Tonga Inc, whom was led by Ms Monalisa Palu. Various local Tongan groups (from Canberra) also participated; the Festival celebrated its 20th anniversary with 7.5 kilometres of bunting, 400 stalls representing 170 nationalities, 350 performance groups and 2500 performers.

The High Commission has since participated in its fourth consecutive year; the National Multicultural Festival provides the ideal platform to promoting Tonga and its peoples, promoting Tongan handicrafts and arts work, and is an excellent opportunity to advertise the Kingdom as a tourist destination to Australia and the world.
