Japan’s assistance of $3,320,000,000 Japanese Yen (equivalent to approximately TOP$55.4 million pa’anga) was announced by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during the PALM7 meeting held last month in Japan. The upgrade design includes reconstruction to the seaside area of the Western side of Faua Wharf to accommodate the inter-island ferries and a passenger terminal building based on the principle of Universal design to provide easy access for elderly and disabled people through the installation of gently sloped ramps throughout the entrances and passageways.
