Call for submissions to Small Islands Anthology

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS TO SMALL ISLANDS ANTHOLOGY

Deadline Wednesday 5 October (11.59 pm in any time zone)

We are inviting writers from islands in the Commonwealth* to submit stories for a new anthology.

The anthology will include poetry, short stories, and nonfiction – which can include creative non-fiction, memoir, and photo or narrative essays – from an island perspective.

*Eligible countries are:

Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Cyprus, Dominica, Fiji, Grenada, Jamaica, Kiribati, Maldives, Malta, Mauritius, Montserrat, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Pitcairn, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Samoa, Seychelles, Singapore, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, Tuvalu, Vanuatu

The anthology will be edited by Nicholas Laughlin, Editor, Caribbean Review of Books.

For short story submissions please send:

- Your short story (1500 – 6000 words), or a completed first draft
- A description of your writing history (300 words max)
- Your contact details (including postal address, email and telephone number) and nationality. Please note, we can only accept submissions from citizens of Commonwealth countries

You are welcome to submit the same piece of fiction to the Small Islands anthology and the 2017 Commonwealth Short Story Prize (which opens for entries on 1 September).

For poetry submissions please send:

- Three completed poems
- A description of your writing history (300 words max)
- Your contact details (including postal address, email and telephone number) and nationality. Please note, we can only accept submissions from citizens of Commonwealth countries

For nonfiction submissions please send:

- Your nonfiction piece (1500 – 6000 words), or an outline of what you want to write and why (750 words max), plus a sample of your nonfiction writing (2000 words max)
- A description of your writing history (300 words)
- Your contact details (including postal address, email and telephone number) and nationality. Please note, we can only accept submissions from citizens of Commonwealth countries.

If we offer you a commission for a nonfiction piece, there may be also be a small expenses fund available to help you to research your piece eg. local travel. Please state in your submission if you would need us to help with research expenses and what these would be.

There are no subject restrictions.

No previously published work will be considered, including work published in anthologies, chapbooks or online.

Please only submit a proposal/work written in English.

Please note you may send up to a maximum of one short story submission and three nonfiction proposals.

Please clearly label your submission short story, poetry or nonfiction.

We will let you know the results of your submission by Monday 7 November. If we offer you a commission, you will need to be available to work with the editor, as and when necessary, from October 2016 to May 2017.
