China Traditional Orchestra Wins Applause in Kingdom of Tonga

Nuku’alofa, 30 May 2016. China National Traditional Orchestra, a leading orchestra far from China, traveled cross the Pacific and brought a wonderful Traditional Chinese Music Concert at Loumaile Lodge in Nuku’alofa, Kingdom of Tonga on Saturday evening 28 May 2016.

The concert was honored by the attendance of HM Queen Mother Mata’aho together with HRH Crown Prince Tupouto’a ‘Ulukalala and HRH Princess Pilolevu Tuita. H.E. Mr. Huang Huaguang, Chinese Ambassador in the Kingdom of Tonga, Nobles of the Realm, Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament and other distinguished guests for HM Queen Mother birthday celebration also jointed this happy occasion.

The program includes traditional Chinese classical music like Qinqiang Ballads Cluster, the Flowery Moonlit on a Spring River as well as items show the combination of Chinese and Western culture like Espana cani. It ended with a Happy Birthday Song for HM Queen Mother performed by Chinese instruments and gained rounds of applause.

The Concert was jointly organized by China Federation of Literacy and Art Circles, the Chinese Embassy in Tonga and Tonga-China Friendship Association and is part of the celebration for HM Queen Mother’s 90th birthday.

Before the concert, H.E. Mr. Huang gave a remarks to appreciate the contribution of Tongan Royal Family for the development of China-Tonga relationship and mentioned that Chinese artists have traveled thousands of miles to bring the excellent performance, “they are here to promote the China-Tonga friendship and to celebrate HM Queen Mother’s Birthday.”

H.E. Mr. Huang also addressed that, “both China and Tonga enjoy a long history and rich culture. We share a common character, that is traditional music keeps a key position in our culture and daily life.... I think the visit of the orchestra in this happy occasion demonstrates the sharing specialty of our cultures and is an important contribution to our cultural exchanges.”

Hon. Samiu Vaipulu, Vice Chairman of Tonga China Friendship Association and Hon. Poasi Tei, Acting Minister for Internal Affairs also delivered remarks to welcome the great performance by the Orchestra.
