Deputy PM Hon. Siaosi Sovaleni and Company attended the Second World Internet Conference in China to learn a few censorship tricks as Tonga's "Internet Moral Czar."
Laws in the books are already addressing the illegality of pornography, human sex trafficking, child pornography and child labor abuses. That's where Police work and cyber investigation of illegal networks are needed. We do not need media censorship dressed up as "Internet Moral Poiice" to restrict free speech. I should have the freedom to choose what Internet program I invite to my home for my children and family.
My responsibility as a parent is to police my own household and electronics devices to restrict immoral shows coming to my children and my family. Every TV, computers, and smart-phones have a device called "Parental Control." I should shutout and restrict shows that responsible parents should not allow their kids to watch on TV, accessed by computers, and smart-phones.
Hon. Siaosi Sovaleni does not have the moral standards to decide by fiat to be my children's "Internet Moral Czar." He should look after the interests of his own children as I do with my children. Government censorship cannot censor free speech and claim they're doing it to protect my children.
We should keep government out of our lives as much as possible. They cannot be snooping around as Peeping Toms in our neighborhoods to see who is watching and receiving what program.
That is what the Chinese Government is doing, and we do not need it in a free democratic society. China is a one-party Communist society: Government spies on its citizens, and incarcerate them with the minimum restrictions of the law. ”
