The writer appears to be lacking in the knowledge of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints financial practices. Thus, he speculates paying off debts. The church helped with the necessities of life as we always see them helping with all-natural disasters around the globe. The church does not bail out financial trouble institutions or countries. The church does not even do that to its' financially trouble members. However, the church will teach its' members to live within their means. That is the only thing the church will do for Tonga. Paying the debt of any country will push the church to cross the line that separate church and state. By doing so, the church will lose its' 501C tax status with the US Government. So that is a no brainier. The article though brought into light the problems we face in Tonga. The financial enticing from China of easy $$ but the Tongan government forgot there will be a day to pay it back. Give me a hamburger today, I will pay you tomorrow. It is a bad mentality. Tonga leaderships are infected with creed quick money scheme offer by China. Now we are facing the music, but we can’t dance. Back to the basic, work the land and the ocean.
