Tonga Red Cross supporting the Ministry of Health to contain the outbreak of dengue in Nuku'alofa

It’s February and Ministry of Health declared Dengue outbreak in Tonga. Secretary General, Sione Taumoefolau met up with Dr. Reynold ‘Ofanoa, from Public Health to discuss further action in response to the increasing case of Dengue in Vaiola Hospital.

Television Program was conducted with partner stakeholders to discuss and call for wider public awareness to aid the effort of the Ministry and stakeholders. The main aim to reduce the chance of mosquito to breed. Initial clean-up activity will be conducted in Kolomotu’a and followed by Kolofo’ou District. This clean- up is supported by District and Town Officers and Tonga Red Cross Society Emergency response volunteers in the Kolofo’ou and Kolomotu’a districts.

The team are now gearing up to kick off the clean-up at Kolomotu’a block 6 tomorrow, starts at 9AM with kind contribution of local businesses. It will be led by the team from Tonga Red Society and Ministry of Health.

The Secretary General of the Tonga Red Cross Society would like to extend his sincere appreciation to local businesses such as Pacific Energy Limited, Pacific Timber and Hardware, Malapo Quarry, Gio-Recycling, Waste Authority and Total Limited for tendering their help in providing trucks and other transportation to assist in this cleanup campaign.
