Government approved 5% COLA Featured

Nuku'alofa, 2 December 2015. His Majesty’s Cabinet, in its meeting on Friday 27 November 2015 approved that a 5% Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) is to be awarded to the public service.
The Cabinet approved that the 5% COLA will be based on the existing salary structure for the public service effective from the 1 July 2015 and to be paid to the public service employees before the Government closes down for the Christmas Vacation for 2015.
This 5% COLA is an interim measure, as Cabinet is still working with the Public Service Commission and the Remuneration Authority to establish and implement transitioning the public service into a new public service salary structure, which is anticipated to be completed and implemented early next year, 2016.
The Ministry of Finance and National Planning will continue with the appropriate processes to implement the Cabinet directive.
