14 May, 2019. The Hon. Prime Minister, Hon Samuela ‘Akilisi Pohiva, met with the Deputy Prime Minister of New Zealand, Rt Hon. Winston Peters MP, in Auckland on Friday, 10th May 2019.
The NZ Deputy Prime Minister, who had requested the meeting, had offered to the Hon Prime Minister, his moral support and wished him an early recovery from the medical treatment he is undergoing at the Mercy Hospital.
They took the opportunity to discuss the need for on-going cooperation between New Zealand and Tongan Governments, to address the drugs problem that the two countries are facing, as well as, Tonga’s new Parliamentary building, which the New Zealand and Australian Governments have committed to.
The Hon Prime Minister has completed Stage 1 of his medical treatment, at the Mercy Hospital on May 8th and the next stage is scheduled for Thursday, 16th May 2019.
