11 April, 2017. His Excellency, Mr. Huang Huaguang, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Tonga, bid farewell to the Hon. Prime Minister, Samuela ‘Akilisi Pohiva yesternady morning, Monday 10th April, 2017, at the Prime Minister’s Office.

HE Huang Huaguang will be leaving Tonga on the 21st April 2017 to the People’s Republic of China after 3 years and four months of being the Ambassador Plenipotentiary of PRC to the Kingdom of Tonga.

The Hon. Prime Minister, thanked His Excellency for all the technical, cooperative and professional assistances the Chinese government has offered towards the development of Tonga, especially with the quick recovery and reconstruction of Nuku’alofa since the disaster of the riots of 2006.

The Hon. Prime Minister said that Tonga’s socio-economic relations with the Chinese government and community in Tonga needs continued strengthening as the Chinese community grows. “Our peoples should be encouraged to work together and if need be, intermarry so that to develop a Tonga that all people who live herein feel attached to the land.”

Amongst the many important projects China has assisted Tonga with, the Hon. Prime Minister acknowledged the St. George Palace, the Agricultural Technical Cooperation in Vava’u III, Agricultural Technical Cooperation in Tonga IV, the Ha’apai Royal Residence and the Chinese Technical Expert Team Phase III.

He said Tonga very much appreciates the nature of the development assistance China offers as they do not have a forward aid plan like those required by other development partners.
