Media Training Workshop on Weather and Climate Information Skills Featured

Nuku’alofa, 20 May 2015. Tonga Meteorological Service in association with the Secretariat of Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) commenced a 3 day training workshop this morning Wednesday 20 May at the National Emergency Management Office (NEMO) at Vaololoa.

The aim of the workshop is to strengthen the capacity and confidence of the Tonga Meteorological Services staff and key stakeholders to work with the media to ensure that weather and climate information are effectively communicated to the public.

The workshop was officially opened by the CEO of Ministry of Meteorology, Energy, Information, Disaster Management, Climate Change and Communications Mr. Paula Ma’u before the floor was opened for presentations from the participants.

Among the participants are Dr. Netatua Taufatofua SPREP’s Climate Change Director, Mr. ‘Ofa Fa’anunu Director of Tonga Meteorological Service, representatives from the Media, government officials, stakeholders, Town Officers and members of the Mo’unga’one community from Ha’apai.

‘Ofa Fa’anunu Director Tonga Meteorological Service emphasized the importance of the workshop to the country and the need to make sure that weather, climate and disaster information are accurately relayed in order for the public to be well prepared.
